Opposition disrupting Assembly proceedings on FridayThe Opposition disrupted Kerala Assembly proceedings for the fifth day in a row today — this time demanding that Labour Minister Shibhu Baby John should disclose details of the conspiracy he had mentioned behind testimony of Biju Radhakrishnan before the Judicial Commission enquiring into the solar panel scam.

The Opposition’s contention was that Mr. John’s statement cast doubts over Opposition members, but Mr. John maintained that he had not said that the conspirator was inside or outside the Assembly.

Union Cabinet approves setting up of six IITs including Palakkad

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved setting up of six new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Andhra Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Goa, Jammu, Kerala and Karnataka.

The Cabinet further gave its approval for operationalisation of these IITs initially by forming of Societies under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in order to give a legal status to them till the amendment for their incorporation in The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 is enacted.

Assembly refers Regulation of Hartal Bill to a select committee

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly on Wednesday referred the Kerala Regulation of Hartal Bill to a select committee chaired by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Mr. Chennithala, who piloted the Bill, withdrew his motion to refer the Bill to Subject Committee and accepted the motion moved by K. Muraleedharan to refer the Bill to Select Committee. Both ruling and Opposition members had wanted deeper deliberations on the Bill and eliciting of public opinion.
