Assembly to meet from November 30

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to recommend to the Governor the convening of the Assembly from November 30.

AssemblyThe session will be mainly devoted to legislative business and passing of supplementary demands for grants.

The Cabinet also decided to disburse all welfare pensions through banks from next month. The decision was taken in view of complaints about pension disbursement through post offices. Already payments under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and five major pension schemes are being routed through banks as direct benefit transfer.

Pension payments through post offices were being delayed on a number of reasons including shortage of staff at the post offices and even absence of withdrawal forms in some post offices. There was also allegation that some service organisations affiliated to leftist parties were disrupting pension payments with a view to the elections.

The beneficiaries will have to submit their bank account number and aadhar number to the local self governments concerned for getting the pensions.
