Thiruvananthapuram: Brisk polling is taking place in the elections to the Kerala Assembly on Monday.
The polling began at 7 am and heavy polling was reported from Kannur and Kozhikode districts. The pace of polling was slow in Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts. The overall polling percentage crossed 25 per cent by 11 am.
Rain affected polling in some locations in the high ranges. Elsewhere, many people went to the booths in the morning fearing rain in the afternoon. This created long queues at the polling stations at some places. The polling so far has been peaceful.
Governor P. Sathasivam cast his vote at a polling booth at Jawahar Nagar in Thiruvananthapram in the morning. In the past, governors had refrained from exercising their franchise. The Governor said that he was to set an example to other citizens as the first citizen of participation in the polls.
Top leaders and candidates were among those who cast their votes in the morning itself.
