Centre plans Wi-fi in all universities

Thiruvananthapuram: Union government proposes to set up wi-fi service in all universities in the country under Digital India project.

Wi-fi will be made available at important public places.

Ministers and government officials will be sending greeting messages only in electronic format in future. Secure and standardised email services will be set up for government offices. Biometric attendance system for government employees will be introduced.

School text books will be made available as e-books to students. Weather information and alerts will be made available to the public using short mail service.

The government will use open application program interface (API) to promote software interoperability of e-government applications.
