Entry of women into temple: Chandy opposes Jairam Ramesh

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has come out against the stand of Congress leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh in favour of entry of women into all temples.

Describing Mr. Ramesh’s view as personal, the Chief Minister said that Kerala government disagreed with his opinion that women should be allowed entry into Sabarimala. The government and Travancore Devaswom Board took a stand against entry of women considering the traditions and rites prevalent for hundreds of years.

Mr. Chandy added that this stand had been stated in the affidavit submitted by the State government before the Supreme Court.
