Governor calls for better functioning of legislature

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala celebrated Republic Day with flag hoisting and other ceremonies across the State on Tuesday.

The Governor P. Sathasivam unfurled the national flag at a ceremonial parade in Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor urged that legislative business should be carried out in a meaningful manner to fulfill the aspirations of the common man.  Against the background of frequent disruptions of legislative functioning, the Governor also called for discipline and gradual achievement of maturity.

Mr. Sathasivam urged that the country should double its vigil against terrorism. Transparency and accountability should be there at all levels.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other dignitaries were present. Platoons from the Army, the Air Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Railway Protection Force, Special Armed Force, Trivandrum City Armed Reserve Police, Kerala Prison Department, Kerala Fire and Rescue Force, Excise Department, Forest Department, NCC (boys and girls) Senior Wing, NCC Senior Division Naval Wing, NCC Junior Army and Air Force Wings, Student Police Cadets (boys and girls) and a wing of Trivandrum City Mounted Police took part in the grand parade.
