Heavy rain forces closure of schools in Thiruvananthapuram

RainsThiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain has caused flooding of many areas of Thiruvananthapuram district.

The shutters of Neyyar dam was opened as the water level is reaching full reservoir level.

The Collector has declared a holiday for educational institutions including professional colleges in the district. However, University examinations will be held as scheduled.

Meanwhile, flooding of Pamba River has eased. The movement of pilgrims to Sabarimala and bathing in the River were restricted on Wednesday. Parking lot at Triveni has been cleared off vehicles as many vehicles had drifted away in flash floods. A large number of vehicles had gone under water.

Sabarimala has been declared as a security zone in view of the pilgrimage.
