Thiruvananthapuram: Is Janata Dal (United) oscillating back to the Left Democratic Front (LDF)?
Most of the district unit chiefs who attended the State level meeting of the party in Kozhikode today were of the view that the party should quit the United Democratic Front (UDF). However, the meeting opposed merger with Janata Dal (S) which is with the LDF.
The Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan has already invited JD (U) back into the LDF fold. But apparently, the party wants to negotiate its own terms instead of joining the LDF through the merger route.
The JDU leaders are peeved by the fact that its votes had come down to a third in the recent elections to the local self governments. This, they feel, was because of betrayal by the Congress. At some places, Congress rebels who entered the contest with support of Congress leaders had caused defeat of JD (U) candidates.
