Mullaperiyar water level rises

Thiruvananthapuram: The water level in the Mullaperiyar reservoir is rising with heavy rains in its catchment areas.

The water level has already crossed 130 feet from the base of the dam and would be climbing further owning to rain and reduction in drawing of water by Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu reduced its intake following heavy rains in the State.

Officials of the State Water Resources Department are visiting the dam to assess the situation. The supervising committee, appointed by the Supreme Court to oversee raising of the reservoir level, is also expected to visit the dam shortly. The committee had visited the dam in June.
