Palode Ravi elected Deputy Speaker of Kerala Assembly

Palode RaviKerala Assembly today elected Congress nominee Palode Ravi as its Deputy Speaker. He won 74 votes against 65 for E. Chandrasekharan of CPI.

Born at Palode in 1949 to P. Gangadharan Pillai and M. Saraswathy Amma, Mr. Ravi entered politics as worker of Kerala Students Union. He has held different positions in the KSU, Youth congress and INTUC.

He is now member of All India Congress Committee and Executive Committee of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and All India Secretary of INTUC. He has been elected to the Assembly previously in 1991 and 1996.

 He was General Secretary, Indo-Russian Friendship Society, Kerala, Trivandrum District Congress Committee and member of Rubber Board, Plantation Labour Committee and Handloom Development Corporation.

He has also served as President, Sree Chithira Thirunal Smaraka Samithi; General Secretary, P.N. Panickar Foundation; Member, Governing Body of State and National Literacy Mission, Executive Committee of Rajaram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Grandhasala Sangham, Vyloppilli Samskriti Bhavan, Sahithya Academy.
