
Thiruvananthapuram: South West monsoon set over Kerala on Wednesday.
The monsoon further advanced into remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Maldives-Comorin area, most parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, some parts of south interior Karnataka, remaining parts of south Bay of Bengal and some more parts of central Bay of Bengal.
The Indian Meteorological Department announced that all three conditions, relating to rainfall, wind speed and outgoing long wave radiation observed by satellite, were fulfilled on June 8, leading to declaration of onset of monsoon.
Conditions, it said, are favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon into some parts of central Arabian Sea, coastal Karnataka, remaining parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, some more parts of south interior Karnataka, some parts of south Andhra Pradesh and some more parts of central Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.
It rained in most parts of Kerala. Heavy rain and flooding are reported form Kochi and neighbouring areas. The MC Road was flooded near Kottarakkara. Very heavy rain was reported from Alappuzha (15 cm) and Punalur (12.5 cm) during 24 hours ended at 8.30 am this morning. Rainfall of 7 cm was recorded in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur.
