Sudheeran calls for withdrawal of permission to reclaim paddy fields

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC President V. M. Sudheeran has asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash to withdraw the permission granted to a private companies to reclaim 425 acres of paddy fields at Metran Kayal near Kumarakom for tourism purposes and at Kadamakkudi  (Ernakulam) for building a multi-speciality hospital.

Mr. Sudheeran maintained that the order was against the stand of the KPCC and would affect the prospects of the party in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The permission was given disregarding the provisions of the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008, and objections by various departments. However, the Revenue Department maintained that no cultivation had taken place in the area after 2007.
