Thiruvananthapuram: Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor said here on Wednesday that he supported entry of women into Sabarimala temple in Kerala.
Talking to the media after KPCC executive meeting, Mr. Tharoor said that discrimination based on sex should end. The same kind of arguments as being raised against the entry of women at Sabarimala had been raised against entry of dalits into temples in the thirties.
“I support the constitution: end discrimination, whether on grounds of caste, creed, sexual orientation, age or gender,” Dr. Tharoor said in a twitter message.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Dewaswom Board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan and other Congress leaders had taken a stand against entry of women into Sabarimala temple. The State government had also submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court disfavouring entry of women at Sabarimala and against the stand taken by the previous LDF government.
