Allowance for Kochi royal family hiked

Kochi Hill Palace by Gokulvarman K. (Wikipedia creative common licence) Thiruvananthapuram: The Cabinet has decided to increase the family and political allowance for 194 members Kochi royal family.

Excise Minister K. Babu said that the Cabinet had taken the decision on an application from the administrator of Kochi Palace.

The monthly allowances for Valia Thampuran and Vallyamma Thampuran have been increased from Rs. 14625 each to Rs. 20000 each. For Elaya Thampuran and Elayamma Thampuran will get Rs. 15000 each. For others, the allowance will go up from Rs. 3900 to Rs. 9000.

The allowance was being provided from the time of unification of princely States of Travancore and Cochin. The total allowance to the family then was Rs. 14.38 lakh annually.
