Thiruvananthapuram: The police have apprehended a migrant labourer from Assam as the accused in the murder of the law student at Perumbavoor one and a half months ago.
The police zeroed in on the accused, Amir ul Islam, tracing his mobile phone calls. The police reportedly got information about him from his friends and a merchant who had sold him the chappals that was found near the victim’s house. The accused was residing not far from the victim’s home.
Additional Director General of Police B. Sandhya confirmed the arrest and said that the collection of evidence against him was continuing. He has to be subjected to an identification parade.
The police said in an official release that it was certain that they had the right person.
Police is understood to have received confirmation that the DNA a samples of the arrested person matched the samples collected from the scene of crime.
Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan said that the detection of the case was a feather on the cap of police.
