Murder of law student: accused remanded to judicial custody

Thiruvananthapuram: Amir Ul Islam, accused of murder of law student at Perumbavoor last month, was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks on Friday.

The police produced the accused in magistrate court at Perumbavoor under heavy security. The accused was brought with his head covered by a helmet. A large number of people were present in the court premises despite heavy rain.

The magistrate directed the authorities to provide legal assistance to the accused as requested by him. He was later taken to the sub jail at Kakkanad. The police have filed application for an identification parade in the jail for the witnesses to identify him. The police may seek custody of the accused after the Parade.

Earlier, Director General of Police Loknath Behra questioned the accused at the Police Club, Aluva. The accused is a migrant worker from Assam.
