CPI Member V. Sasi elected as Deputy Speaker

V. Sasi who was elected as Deputy Speaker on WednesdayThiruvananthapuram: CPI Member V. Sasi was elected as Deputy Speaker of Kerala Assembly on Wednesday.

Mr. Sasi won 90 against 45 polled by I. C. Balakrishnan of Congress. One vote was declared invalid. Five members including O. Rajagopal (BJP) did not vote. (Two UDF members and one LDF member were absent). P. C. George (Independent) voted. Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan also did not vote (The ruling Front has 92 members in the Assembly including the Speaker.)

Born at Thiruvananthapuram to A. Velu and. K. Sarada in 1950; Mr. Sasi is a graduate engineer.

He has served as Director, Managing Director and Chairman of various Public Sector Undertakings and Member, Board of Directors, National Textile Corporation and Coir Board. He has also served as Chairman of Kerala Agricultural Workers Welfare Fund Board (2006-2009) and Member, Travancore Devaswom Board (10 months).

Mr. Sasi was elected to the Assembly from Chirayinkizhu.
