Onam week celebrations conclude

Onam Week celebrations: Float of Trivandrum Medical College in the cultural pageantThiruvananthapuram: Onam week celebrations concluded in the capital on Sunday with a cultural pageantry and variety entertainment.

Governor P. Sathasivam flagged off the pageant which featured more than 75 floats and various art forms of Kerala. These included Kathakali and folk arts forms. African dance and art forms from nine States were also featured in the pageant.

The procession began from the Manveeyam Veedi and concluded at East Fort. The front of the pageant was brought up by roller skaters. Mounted police and bands also formed part of the pageant. Various government departments and quasi-government institutions presented floats.

The floats of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College about brain death and organ donation, KSEB about total electrification, Social Security Mission about care of elderly persons and KSRTC received special attention.

After the pageantry was over, variety entertainment programmes were held at Kanakakunnu palace including a dance programme of film actor Manju Warrier.
