DGP to look into Vigilance Director’s complaint about phone tapping

Loknath BeheraThiruvananthapuram: Director General of Police Loknath Behera may take a decision on the complaint of Director of Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau Jacob Thomas that his email account and phone had been tapped.

Mr. Behera told the media that though strict guidelines are in place on the basis of Supreme Court order on phone tapping, technological advances had made it possible to tap phones without approvals.

The DGP said that Inspectors Generals were empowered to tap phone as part of investigations in case of urgency. However, he has to get his decision ratified by the Home Secretary in three days. Otherwise, the IG would run into trouble.
