Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Kerala on December 30 will be politically significant in more ways than one.
The Congress president will be holding discussions separately with leaders of UDF constituents in Kottayam on Wednesday afternoon. These talks assume importance in view of forthcoming Assembly elections and muted consultations in Kerala Congress (M) about quitting the UDF.

- It is a compromise deal, in many ways it can be termed as lowest minimum denominator
- The deal puts the world on a path of 3 degrees and above of global warming as not much enhancement in ambition will happen for next 10 years
- Developed countries have not committed any significant finance or emission cuts before 2020
- The biggest winners are the developed countries; their historical responsibility has finally been erased
- No major wins or losses for India in short term. India has got right words in the agreement but failed to operationalize equity and get fair share of carbon space
